Psalm 23

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

    Charles Haddon Spurgeon

    Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92) was England’s best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification.

     C. H. Spurgeon

    The life of Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92) was called the prince of preachers.  In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London’s famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861 the congregation moved permanently to the new Metropolitan Tabernacle.

    Thanksgiving Expressed

        1Then you will say on that day,
             ”(FM)I will give thanks to You, O LORD;
             For (FN)although You were angry with me,
             Your anger is turned away,
             And You comfort me.
        2″Behold, (FO)God is my salvation,
             I will (FP)trust and not be afraid;
             For (FQ)the LORD GOD is my strength and song,

             From the (FS)springs of salvation.
        4And in that day you will (FT)say,
             ”(FU)Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name
             (FV)Make known His deeds among the peoples;
             Make them remember that His name is exalted.”
        5(FW)Praise the LORD in song, for He has done excellent things;
             Let this be known throughout the earth.
        6(FX)Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
             For (FY)great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.
